What does each certificate verify?
Certificates are not interchangeable; each one evidences a different claim. GOTS and GRS are holistic standards: alongside fibre content they also cover environmental and social criteria. OCS and RCS are content-verification standards only — they trace the share of organic or recycled fibre through the supply chain but do not assess social criteria. Which one you need depends on the market the product is sold into and on the brand's own requirement. In every case, for an order to count as certified there must be a valid Transaction Certificate issued for that specific lot; a scope certificate alone is not sufficient.
| Certificate | What it verifies | Social and environmental criteria | Typical fibre |
|---|---|---|---|
| GOTS | Organic fibre content and holistic compliance of the whole chain | Covered | Organic cotton |
| OCS | Organic fibre share and its traceability only | Not covered | Organic cotton |
| GRS | Recycled content and traceability | Covered | Recycled polyester |
| RCS | Recycled fibre share only | Not covered | Recycled polyester |
How is scope distributed along the production chain?
KARCEM knits and produces greige fabric in its own facility; dyeing, printing and finishing run through a supervised contract network. A certified order therefore rests not on a single document but on each link of the chain holding its own scope. Per product we supply the relevant scope certificates together with the Transaction Certificate.
| Stage | Where it is done | Governing document |
|---|---|---|
| Knitting and greige fabric | KARCEM Esenyurt facility | KARCEM scope certificate |
| Dyeing, printing and finishing | Supervised contract partners | Partner's GOTS/OCS/GRS/RCS scope, ZDHC and OEKO-TEX compliance |
| Lot-level claim | Issued per order | Transaction Certificate (TC) |
Common questions about our certifications and sustainability.
How can I verify your certificates?
We share our current scope certificates (the USB and GOTS scope PDFs) on request. Each certificate can be verified against the issuing body’s official database using its document number.
What's the difference between GOTS and OCS?
GOTS is a holistic standard covering environmental and social criteria in addition to organic fibre content. OCS only tracks and verifies the amount of organic fibre in a product along the supply chain.
What's the difference between GRS and RCS?
GRS covers traceability and social and environmental criteria in addition to recycled content. RCS only verifies and tracks the proportion of recycled fibre in a product.
Can you supply organic or recycled certified fabric?
Yes. We produce organic fabric under GOTS/OCS and recycled-content fabric under GRS/RCS. On an order basis, we can arrange a Transaction Certificate (TC) for the batch.
What does your certification scope include?
Our own certification scope covers knitting and greige fabric. Dyeing, printing and chemical management are carried out by our vetted contract partners under GOTS/OCS/GRS/RCS and ZDHC/OEKO-TEX; per order we provide the relevant scope and Transaction Certificate documents together.
Which sustainable fibres do you use?
We use Lenzing’s wood-based fibres: TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal, LENZING™ Modal and LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose. We also work with organic cotton and recycled fibres as needed.
Can I receive a Transaction Certificate (TC) for organic or recycled orders?
Yes. For orders within GOTS, OCS, GRS and RCS scope we support the relevant Transaction Certificate (TC) process; details are confirmed at the order stage.
Does certified production add cost or lead time?
Certified fibres and processes are part of our standard production flow. Any extra certification and traceability requirements are included transparently in the price and schedule.
